The Affordable Care Act and marketplace insurance are hot political topics that people tend to have strong opinions on. However, for patients at His Hands who are not offered insurance through work and who are 1. Just slightly over Medicaid income guidelines or 2. Have not been in the US for 5 years so they cannot get Medicaid, the marketplace insurance is a viable option for them. Actually, quite a few of the people that I worked with were able to get fairly low deductibles without a monthly premium because of the tax credits they qualified for.
One patient of the clinic is in a helping profession and puts in well over forty hours per week, but she is not offered insurance through either of her part time jobs. This was the first year that she applied for insurance through marketplace. It was a relief to her to know that in 2019 she will have insurance coverage with a low deductible, which is affordable for her family. Another patient has a serious medical condition. He obtained insurance coverage and will get to see a specialist in 2019!
Our patients can be hesitant to move on for primary care. They like our providers, nurses, front desk volunteers, and prayer support.
Thank you for your support of His Hands! Without your generosity, we would not be able to serve the most vulnerable in our community. Thank you for your partnership in 2018, and we are looking forward to seeing all that God is going to do through His Hands in 2019!
Many blessings to you in 2019!
