Diabetes Education

According to the CDC over 30.3 million Americans, 9.4% of the population, have diabetes. Some risk factors for diabetes include family history, engaging in physical activity fewer than three times per week, being overweight, diet, being pre-diabetic and age.

Since diabetes is a condition many of our patients have, we are now offering diabetic education.  In the past we have tried to connect our patients with external referrals for education, but have not always been successful. We are optimistic that patients will be more willing to attend educational sessions if they are held here at our clinic where they are already comfortable coming and is an accessible location to them. Jennifer Lopez, Assistant Clinic Coordinator, launched individualized diabetic education sessions this spring. She offers patients information on nutrition, exercise, medication management, and is available to answer any other questions they may have. We hope many of our patients will see improved health outcomes in the coming year by taking advantage of this new educational opportunity.
