Mala Sharma is an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist. She grew up in Marion with her parents and 1 brother. During that time, her family returned to India for 4 years when she was in the 6th grade because her grandparents were ill and her parents wanted to be close to them. Upon their return she finished high school, and attended Iowa State where she got degrees in Biology and Animal Science. Her initial goal was to become a veterinarian, but she developed allergies to both dogs and cats. This brought about a career change and she has now applied for medical school. She says: “I like learning” and looks forward to going back to school. She would like very much to be accepted in either the University of Iowa or Des Moines University. She would like to stay in Iowa to be close to family. I assured her we would pray that way.
Mala came to His Hands in March, looking for a way to be involved in the community. She wanted to help an organization that doesn’t have a lot of resources. She has been serving as a receptionist and administrative assistant. When asked what she has enjoyed most about His Hands, she said there is no one thing, that she like coming in and enjoys talking to others of different backgrounds. She said she connects with immigrants since this was her parent’s situation back in 1993.
Mala has been a blessing to those we serve and those she serves alongside. “Her” patients will one day be blessed as well.
